Report: Plastic recycling in the U.S. on the rise

ACC SmartBrief | 03/04/2009

In a report put together with the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers, the American Chemistry Council says recycling in the U.S. increased by 115 million pounds of plastic from 2006 to 2007. “We are pleased to see plastics recycling continue to climb. Plastics recycling continues to grow because people recognize that plastics are a valuable resource — too valuable to waste,” said Steve Russell, the ACC’s plastics division managing director. This is great news.

What great news! I know I try to do my part by recycling all the plastic bags I can into tote bags and other usable items. I have people saving bags for me and I also “steal” them from the recycling bins at stores to get enough materials to craft more bags. If everyone just did a little extra, we’d have less plastic trash in our landfills.
