NY students collect 32K plastic bags for recycling

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – It may not be like collecting merit badges, but it’s a whole lot better for the environment.

Students at a middle school in suburban New York have collected over 32,000 plastic bags in an effort to promote recycling.

Westchester County Executive Andy Spano said he’ll praise the efforts of the Irvington Middle School students at a special assembly on Thursday. The plastic bags will be piled up in the auditorium for all to see.

The 20 students of the Pay It Forward Club collected more plastic bags than any other school in the county during a plastic bag recycling drive that started last March.

Great job! That’s a good idea for schools.
