The Death Sentence for Plastic Bags

Here is a web-exclusive commentary from globeandmail.com in Canada:

Most of the local reasons given for reducing [plastic] bag use have to do with their sheer volume and long-term persistence. The Washington-based Worldwatch Institute estimates that 500 billion plastic shopping bags are distributed and discarded every year, each of which can take up to 1,000 years to break down.

Again, JUST SAY NO when a retailer offers you a plastic bag for your purchases. I carried a package of Jockey’s for Her through the exclusive Mall at Green Hills in Nashville last weekend. Since I’m not a head-turner, no one noticed. Nicole Kidman gets noticed in the Mall at Green Hills, but she can have her people carry her purchases.
