Friends of Warner Parks now has more than $9.75 million towards the purchase of the Hill Tract on Highway 70, the last large tract of undeveloped property adjacent to the parks.

The group has been working to purchase the land, and its fund-raising goal of $10.8 million is $1.2 million away from fruition, thanks in large measure to the contributions of area residents, organizers say.

Friends of Warner Parks hopes to acquire the property, linking existing park lands and thereby preserving one of the largest old growth forests in an urban park anywhere in the country.
