A Trash Compactor Worth Writing About

I have never seen a Pixar film in a movie theatre until Wall E. When I read the synopsis, I knew that I had to see this film. While it has been Disney-ized for the masses, the movie is not about a love story between two robots, one of whom is a trash compactor. I believe that it’s about our society, our overconsumption and our trashing our Earth. To me, the real love story is the captain and his wish to return to an Earth that he has never experienced-an Earth with dancing, hiking, swimming and gardening. It is the earth that I enjoy daily through the hummingbirds at the feeder, flowers in my backyard and hiking on the greenways.

I was amazed that those in the auditorium who were noshing on their 32-ounce sodas and tubs of popcorn could even laugh at the humans on the spaceship Axiom, sponsored by BnL. At Starbucks at the airport this morning, I ordered the 12-ounce Soy Latte instead of the 16-ounce Soy Latte because of the themes I found in Wall E. I’ll always order the smallest drink or food item from now on because we have super-sized everything we eat. Even a 12-ounce coffee is ridiculous. I knew this, but Wall E rubbed my nose in my own sins.

While the movie will be marketed by Big-N-Large, oops, I mean Disney ad naseum, everyone should see it and see themselves.

First movie we’ve seen at the theater in about 3 years and it was worth seeing. I was raised being frugal, non-wasting, and it hurts to see what we do to our planet. Maybe it will make people think, I hope so.
