Because it isn’t convenient. We have to make an effort, if we live in a part of the city that doesn’t have curbside pick up. Today was “Garbage Man” day in our subdivision. The neighbors had their trash cans on the curb ready for pick up. I noticed that a couple of houses had cardboard boxes (a lot of them) perched next to their trash cans. To recycle the cardboard, the neighbors would have to put it into their cars and drive about five miles to a recycling center.
My husband and I are willing to make this drive. I have cardboard, paper, glass, plastic and a few cans separated and ready to haul to the recycling center this weekend. We don’t make a special trip. We go when we are going in that direction anyway. I don’t like keeping this “trash” around a week or two, but I’m proud of the fact that we rarely have more than one bag of trash for the “Garbage Man.”

I recycle but only because my wife makes me. I know…get some stones! After watching the garbage dudes throw my recycle stuff in the regular trash a few years ago…I said no more. Plus, they charge me to do it. They sure as heck aren’t doing it for free or out of the goodness of their hearts. There is money in it for them…and they are charging me to pick it up. I’ll let you guys – and my wife – do the recycling!

Right, Kirby. We toss the item somewhere. Why not put it where it can be reused?

wow..all the coments are gud bu i think datt everyone shld recycle too i mean like if yu want to be surrounded by trash in da next few years dan dnt recycle we ned every1 too participate &&nd if everyone jus recycle dan earth wld be da best planet yu noe….so we shld all work 22gether even if yu dont gt no money are reward for doing this dnt matter jus think of it as the reward for not dying because of trash…i noe datt every1 is eventually going to die bu yu dnt want to die over trash so we mise well take the oppertunitie &&nd start recycling before it even gets to that point we cld prevent datt frm happening we jus have to work as a team….!!!

I have trouble staying motivated to recycle and sometimes I slip into my old habits but if everyone just kicks in in a little effort we can leave our children and our grandchildren a better world. It is all about creating habits. i am teaching my son to take the time to do the little things and, I hope, he will do the same. Let’s set the example.
